Disney World 2026 Changes: What’s Closed, What’s Reopening, and How to Plan Smarter

If you’re planning a Disney World trip in 2026, this is not the same Disney World you may remember.

Entire areas are gone. Major rides are reopening after long closures. New lands are under construction. Even some resorts are being renovated.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go.

It just means you need the right plan.

Because when rides close or reopen, crowd patterns shift. Lightning Lane priorities change. Certain parks feel busier. And construction can impact your resort stay.

Let’s walk through what’s changing at each park — and what it means for your vacation.

Magic Kingdom Changes in 2026

Magic Kingdom is experiencing some of the biggest changes on property.

Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island Closed

The Rivers of America, Liberty Belle Riverboat, and Tom Sawyer Island are permanently closed. This area is being cleared to build a new Cars-themed land called Piston Peak.

The new land will not open for a few years, so for now this section of the park feels very different.

Because of nearby construction, the Walt Disney World Railroad is not running its full loop. It is currently operating in shuttle mode between Main Street and Fantasyland.

If riding the train around the entire park is part of your plan, you’ll need to adjust.

Big Thunder Mountain Reopening

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is expected to reopen in Spring 2026 after a lengthy refurbishment.

Updates include:

  • A brand-new track

  • Ride enhancements

This reopening will shift crowd flow and Lightning Lane strategy. Big Thunder Mountain absorbs large crowds, so its return will impact wait times across the park.

Expect renewed interest and higher demand once it returns.

Jessie’s Roundup

For the first time in over 20 years, a new stage show will debuting in the Diamond Horseshoe. As part of Cool Kids Summer, Jessie’s Roundup will take over the space starting May 26.

Cinderella Castle Update

Cinderella Castle is being repainted, shifting away from the bright pink accents and returning to a more classic gray-and-blue look.

If you haven’t visited recently, Magic Kingdom will feel noticeably different.

Hollywood Studios Closures and Rethemes

Disney's Hollywood Studios is also in a major transition period.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Retheme

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is closing March 2 for a complete retheme from Aerosmith to the Muppets.

The updated version is expected to reopen in Summer 2026.

If this ride is a priority for your family, check reopening timelines before finalizing park plans.

Smugglers Run Update

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is adding a new Mandalorian-themed mission starting May 22, 2026.

The engineer role is becoming more interactive, which may increase demand.

EPCOT Updates in 2026

Epcot has completed its large-scale overhaul, but several upgrades are happening this year.

Frozen Ever After Upgrade

Frozen Ever After now features updated animatronics with more lifelike expressions. This is a subtle upgrade that most guests probably won’t notice, but it pluses the ride.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure Change

Remy's Ratatouille Adventure has removed 3D glasses and now runs in 2D with sharper screens and sets.

Soarin’ Across America Debuts

Soarin' Around the World will temporarily feature Soarin’ Across America in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

Limited-time overlays often increase crowds, so plan accordingly.

Tree of Life Theater Update

The Tree of Life Theater now features Zootopia: Better Zoogether. This show is lighter and less intense than its predecessor, making it more family-friendly.

Conservation Station Changes

Conservation Station is currently closed. When Conservation Station reopens:

  • The petting zoo will not return

  • The Animation Academy will not return

  • Bluey-themed experiences will be added

This area of the park is going to be missed during its redevelopment, but it is expected to reopen this summer.

  • Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort

  • Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

  • Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge - Kidani Village

Recently completed renovations at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa include a refreshed lobby and new bar, The Perch.

There are several construction projects currently ongoing at Disney World, so make sure you check how this could affect your room or dining choices.

What These Disney World Changes Mean for Your Trip

Here’s the part most people miss.

When a major ride reopens, wait times everywhere change. When a land closes, crowds shift to other areas. When construction walls go up, walking paths and traffic patterns adjust.

If you use a touring plan from two years ago, it will not work the same way in 2026.

That’s why planning this year requires updated strategy — not just general Disney advice.

Why Ongoing Updates Matter More Than Ever

Disney announces changes constantly. Reopenings get delayed. Closures get extended. New experiences appear with very little notice.

That’s exactly why my Less Stress More Magic Planning Guide includes 12 full months of updates after purchase.

You won’t be stuck with outdated information.

When something changes, your strategy changes too.

Inside the guide, you’ll find:

• Step-by-step park plans
• Updated Lightning Lane strategy
• Sample itineraries
• Resort guidance during construction
• Ongoing updates for an entire year

It’s built for busy families who don’t have time to track every Disney announcement — but still want a smooth, well-planned vacation.

If you want clarity, confidence, and a plan that actually reflects what Disney World looks like right now, the guide was created for you.

Because 2026 isn’t about avoiding change.

It’s about planning smart around it — so your trip still feels magical.
